Get voting!

Get voting!

What have you got in your bag of tricks? With winter approaching the voting is open for the 2010 Nike 6.0 Stairset Battle Tour. A competition focused purely on the best trick on a stair rail. The competition is open to all snowboarders, no matter where you are from, and one winner from each stage (there are nine overall in nine different countries) will be given a wild card into the Super Final which will take place in February at a location yet to be chosen.

Until 30th November you can vote for where you want the tour to stop via the Nike 6.0 Facebook page so if you think you know of a park in Europe that is worthy of such an event, wherever it may be, then get voting. Each park that is chosen will not only have the honour but they also get to keep the stairset!

The pistes of the Grande Motte glacier during the winter

The pistes of the Grande Motte glacier during the winter

Things are off to a good start in the mountainous regions of Europe with heavy snow falls and cold temperatures over the last couple of weeks. Although freezing levels are still high compared to January time, the glaciers of Tignes and Les Deux Alpes are well equipped with the white stuff, the latter having had a metre already! Local skiers and snowboarders are making use of the few runs that are open in those resorts, getting in a bit more practise before the rest of us…

The glaciers at Hintertux and Stubai offer some of the best skiing. There were sixteen lifts operating at Stubai on Thursday 28th October and Hintertux have beaten Les Deux Alpes with 155cm of snow. In Switzerland and Italy some glaciers have almost two metres of snow, that’s a lot for this time of the year.

So things are looking promising for this coming winter season. Predictions show that there will be a relatively slow start as far as snow is concerned although it looks like things will pick up through January and into February. Better get your winter warmers sorted!

The Limited Edition DH 2.5

The Limited Edition DH 2.5

The new Ride DH 2.5 has now been released and it looks wicked! Yet another ace graphic from Ride, always relied upon to produce boards featuring bright colours and artist’s own graphics. This particular limited edition graphic was designed by Coop (AKA- Chris Cooper) who is an L.A based artist who has collaborated with Ride on this occasion to add to their DH2 Artist Series collection. Another board which features in this series and is also a limited edition is the 2.4. The 2.5 is based around Chris Cooper’s style of art which is inspired by hot rods, B-movie monsters and alluring female characters! Bright colours also it seems!

The DH 2.5 has top specs and has plenty of Ride’s new technologies such as Hybrid ProRize™ Rocker, Slimewalls and Pop Rods 2.0. So not only are the graphics pretty cool but the actual performance of the board will definitely be what we have come to expect from a Ride snowboard.

Ride say, “The DH 2.5 combines the surfy feel of rocker with the hard charging pop you get from traditional camber for a hook-free feel that maintains snap. Complete with all the key ingredients for a true Ride masterpiece.”

Keep an eye out for the DH 2.5, it’s coming to Two Seasons very soon…

The Absinthe Films NowHere cover

The Absinthe Films NowHere cover

Another epic snowboard DVD is out for 2010/11. Huge names such as Wolle Nyvelt, Nicolas Müller, Gigi Rüf, JP Solberg, Tadashi Fuse and Sylvain Bourbousson and Anne Flore Marxer for the girly snowboarders are to name but a few of the pro riders who feature in the new Absinthe films production NowHere. The Absinthe film crew and their riders are known for their sickness, always pushing the boundaries and showing us new and huge tricks and lines that have never been attempted before. Some of the sections in NowHere are pretty close to the mark – land the trick or there will be big trouble…There is a great mix of backcountry, freestyle and street snowboarding as always.

One of the best rider sections has to be that of Billabong rider Wolle Nyvelt who shows us how it’s done on his own Asmo snowboard. Wolle and Steve Gruber started their own company producing these boards which are a cross between a snowboard and a skateboard, there are no bindings so it has both a skate and powder snowboard feel, he’s even got some tricks down and he makes it look so naturally easy that you realize just how good a rider he really is.

Check out one of Nyvelt’s Billabong vid here and get the new Absinthe film NowHere now as it is available to download from iTunes.

Burton High5 Tour

Burton’s High Five tour landed at Tamworth’s Snowdome at the end of September – check out this edit from the new competition format event. If anyone needed reassuring that the UK snowboarding scene is still well and truly alive, it’s right in front of your nose.

For the uninitiated, the High5 tour is a collaboration between global snowboarding giant Burton, Whitelines and the UK’s six indoor slopes. Instead of being a straight forward competition, the event is rider judged and run in jam format. The best riders are then taken to the final on a two run, best run counts basis. It’s not just the riding under scrutiny though, park crews are also being watched on their ability to create unique, innovative and above all, FUN features. Keep an eye out for the next stop coming to your local fridge. Remaining tour dates are below the video!

  • Burton High5 Tour Remaining Dates
  • Oct 8th: Hemel Hempstead (7pm-11pm)
  • Oct 16th: Castleford (7pm-11pm)
  • Nov 5th: Manchester (7pm-11pm)
  • Nov 13th: Milton Keynes (7pm-11pm)

Trace your thermals right back to the field it came from!

Baaaacode!

Inspired by nature, Icebreaker use sustainable merino wool to make every single one of their delightfully comfortable thermal base layers. The fibres have been sourced from sheep in the Southern Alps of New Zealand where temperatures and terrain can be as harsh as any other mountainous region where we may ski or snowboard.

With Icebreaker products, you know where they’ve come from, literally. Over two million acres of ranch-land in New Zealand is used to ‘grow’ your garment. Merino sheep from around one hundred and forty farms produce around one and a half thousand tonnes of merino which is then transformed into three million garments across twenty four countries!

The best bit about all of this (apart from the fact that your Icebreaker thermal keeps you toasty warm) is that you can actually trace it right back to the very farm that it came from. Each garment comes with a unique BAACODE (see what they did there?) which you can then type into the search bar on the Icebreaker site to see where and how it has been developed and exactly where it’s come from. We think that’s cool!

Our new range of Icebreaker has just arrived and will be available soon…

The new Ride DH2.4 looks awesome!

The new Ride DH2.4 looks awesome!

This seasons Ride DH has just dropped here at Two Seasons and it’s definitely on our list of things to buy for winter 10/11. To make us even more excited, Ride Snowboards have just released top secret info on the DH 2.4, a limited artist edition that showcases graphics by original and organic art collective, Dethkills and which is part of the DH2 Artist Series collection. Dethkills say of themselves, “Drawing our artistic and aesthetic inspiration from music, skateboarding, photography, cycling, and art we apply the grass-roots, Punk rock, DIY ethos that influenced us so heavily”. Cool, we’re happy with that.

Apart from the eye-catching graphics (which should obviously never influence your choice when it comes to buying a board!!) the DH and the DH2.4 have the potential to be your awesome mountain weapons of choice. Both are all-mountain boards with a large lean to freestyle, the DH is of a traditional camber whilst the DH 2.4 has added rocker qualities which will bring different dimensions to your riding. Check out Ride’s Hybrid ProRize™ Rocker tech vid below. A new board shape with shed loads of pop (or buttery softness as Ride like to call it) along with landing stability and responsiveness and the fact that it is a one-time release, the DH 2.4 is going to be in demand from the moment it drops but it will be available for pre-order very soon so keep on checking the Snowboards category!

Jamie as high up on the podium as you can get!Billabong pro rider Jamie Anderson has won the Burton New Zealand Open for the third successive year. Jamie’s winning run included a boardslide-to-tailpress on the down bar, a frontside 180 out on the up box, switch backside 180 mute, backside 360 mute, and a backside 180 mute. This awesome run earned her 79.20 points putting her straight into first place. She said after the event, “I can’t believe it, I love the Burton Opens and winning this event three times in a row is amazing, so I’m ecstatic and so stoked to start the year with a good result.”
Even at such a young age Jamie has many achievements under her belt already including the youngest medal winner ever at the Winter X Games (knocking Shaun White off his post and winning twice since) in 2006 winning slopestyle gold, TTR Series overall winner in 2007, Roxy Chicken Jam in 2008 and last year she was named ‘Female Rider of the Year’ by Snowboard Mag and Transworld. There are loads more wins and medals to add to that list and we hope there will be many more this season and in the future.
The Burton NZ Open is one of the first competitions of the year in the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour. This is the showcase event for the up and coming season and always a good indicator as to who will be ripping it come the European winter season.

The first of this year’s snowboards are now starting to arrive – just yesterday we had a delivery from Capita of winter 10-11 boards and WOW; they look sick.

Winter 2010-11 Capita Snowboards

This year we’re carrying 4 Capita decks in total, the ones above in order are:

  • Stairmaster
  • Stairmaster Extreme
  • Horrorscope
  • Indoor Survival

This season’s selection is packed with Capita’s FK (Flat Kick) technology, which is designed to give you back the pop that most reverse camber boards take away. The Horrorscope has Urban FK, perfect for snowdome and jib riding with a flat section in the base and long rocker sections toward the nose and tail. The Indoor Survival’s Freestyle FK features an extended flat camber between the inserts which is stiffened with carbon. Perfect for killing it in the park one day then taking it to the pow the next.

They should be up and available on the snowboard section of the website for pre-order within the next couple of days – check back soon to make sure you don’t miss out!
