After input earlier this year from the legendary skateboard master himself Tony Hawk, plus the history of the epic Radlands Skatepark which has left a hole in Northampton’s skate scene since it closed seven years ago, plans have finally been passed for a new 3000m² space in the heart of the Northampton town and the birthplace of Two Seasons.

Work is set to start in July 2012, plans have been passed for the site at Midsummer Meadows so the start of the design process will be going ahead very shortly and the local public will be involved from the start.

In fact the local community on every level have really pulled together to make this happen and it’s thanks to the Skatepark Action Group Committee Members and local council members that these plans have been pushed through and that the funding is there in the first place.

We can’t wait to see the next developments and the finished product!

The world’s best known action sports competition is back for summer 2011! The X Games 17 starts today in L.A. It only seems like yesterday that we were watching the Winter X Games Europe in Tignes back in March but now summer is here and it’s time for Shaun White to show us what he can do on a skateboard as oppose to a snowboard!

It’s not just skate that features though. The worlds best BMXers, Moto Xers and rally drivers will inevitably be going bigger and better than ever before. All the big shots are in town, after all, this one is the biggie. The skate and BMX park is packed into a smaller area this year making it more technical and a lot more hectic. On the Street course, we will be closely watching Element Skateboarder Nyjah Huston, who off the back of three Street League wins, is looking for his first X Games Gold.

Others to watch are legends Bob Burnquist in the Skateboard Big Air, Rune Gilberg, Bucky Lasek and Andy McDonald (who has competed in every Summer X Games ever to date) in the Skateboard Park. Perhaps the most competitive stage will be Skateboard Street where Element rider Nyjah Houston, DC’s Chris Cole, Paul Rodriquez, Torey Pudwell and Ryan Sheckler amongst other famous names, will battle it out on the newly revamped and awesome looking Street course. Always popular is the Skateboard Vert where this year Tony Hawk will feature only via the PA system, only sneaking on the ramp during practise sessions. He’s leaving it to his friends and colleagues to fight it out between them, Shaun White is perhaps the favourite though..?

Although Great Britain has no presence in the general skate comp we do have some very hopeful BMXers to potentially bring home the Gold medals! Nike 6.0 rider Harry Main, Alex Coleborn, Mark Webb, Jamie Bestwick and Simon Tabron are all representing the UK in the various disciplines of Freestyle Park, Street and Vert. Then there’s the USA’s best including Drew Bezanson, Dennis Enarson, Garrett Reynolds, Jeremiah Smith, Josh Harrington, Chase Hawk and Sean Sexton. The BMX Freestyle Park comp promises to be big if the Nike 6.0 Pool event earlier this year is anything to go by!

One last one to watch is of course, Travis Pastrana in not only Moto X Best Trick and Freestyle events but also in Rally X! In between these X Games events he will be flying off to compete in his first NASCAR race, it’s a ‘Pastranathon’ according to ESPN! We still have limited bits of stock of Travis Pastranas 199 collaboration with Fox and Red Bull here, and it’s in the sale! Dave Mirra, Jeremy ‘Twitch’ Stenberg, DC founder Ken Block, Nate Adams, Danny Torres and Brian Deegan are all taking part in various auto/moto events too.

Check out the competition schedule and stay tuned on ESPN, it’s going to be a good one.

Park plan - King's Field

Park plan - King's Field

My local skate park is up and running and it’s been worth the wait! The new space that has been created in Hampton Wick, Kinston-upon-Thames, is open to all on wheels – skaters, BMXers and inliners alike. The park now suits me better with both bowl and street to skate, it’s so nice to just swap between my two favourite aspects of skateboarding and to be able to do it all in one park. The area is very flowing and has such a nice smooth concrete to skate on. This park has everything a skater needs and wants – a sweet 4-set with round and square down rail, deathbox, driveway with grass gap, bowl with vert and amazing hips all over the park.

Its open and ready for your pleasure and its well worth a trip and if you’re coming down make sure you guys pop into the Kingston store to get all the skate stuff you need and directions to the park.

Check out the park plan and the busy opening sessions video below.

Drew Bezanson on the tiles!

Drew Bezanson on the tiles!

The Pool, brought to you by Nike 6.0, was officially opened with an crazy display of world-class BMX goodness on Saturday. Best tricks were saved for the finals which got going late afternoon and the standard of riding was instantly impressive, not a moment went by without a huge trick being thrown and both riders and crowds were clearly loving the atmosphere.

So, who won their share of the massive prize fund then? Well, out of the ten teams there were five in the finals, each team getting a ten (more like twenty) minute jam session to prove what they could do in the pool arena, the possibilities were endless, the lines taken, madness. It was Dennis Enarson’s (who also won Best Rider) all-American team including Shaun White lookalike Jeremiah Smith who worked the diving board, Chad Kerley and Josh Harrington who took the title on the day. After pulling off certainly the most daring trick of the comp with a wall ride on the tiles just below The Pool gallery (on the first floor!), Drew Bezanson’s team including the UK’s own Rob Wise, Pat Casey and Michael Beran team came in second. The captain of the 3rd placed team is one of the best known names on the UK’s BMX scene. Harry Main, alongside Kyle Baldock, Alex Coleborn and Ben Wallace put on an impressive show, Main pulling out a bunny hop flair into the pool. It was Brian Foster though who took home the Best Trick prize for gap to curved wall ride out of the deep end.

Now that The Pool has officially launched it’s up to you, the public, to head down there and try it out. Why would you not? It’s probably the sickest BMX facility available in the UK, ever and it’s been ridden by the world’s best riders and it’s completely free. The only problem is you only have 30 days…and then the bulldozers move in. There are even bikes to borrow, all standard twenty inch in size as well as helmets, knee and elbow pads. There are special sponsored sessions to go watch as well as specific public slots so make sure you check out the Nike 6.0 BMX UK page before heading down there. It’s well worth it, the whole place is amazing. Enjoy!

Heard about The Pool? BMX and Nike 6.0 are back! Remember the Tunnel Jam? If you’re a BMX fan you must have heard what went down in the woods? The Tunnel Jam was a hush hush event that happened deep in the woods and then deep inside that, a tunnel. Check out the video below if you haven’t seen it already.

Jason Phelan warms up for the comp!

Jason Phelan warms up for the comp!

This time around it’s, you guessed it – a swimming pool – no board shorts needed though! A 70’s swimming pool in fact, in Dagenham, that has been redesigned into a unique BMX facility with the help of a park designer by the name of Dave Sowerby. The Pool facility will open with a global invite-only event involving some of the best riders in the world from the Nike 6.0 team including the likes of Garrett Reynolds, Jason Phelan and Harry Main. From 16th May there will be pro sessions for all to watch and the facility will then be open for free to the general public who will be able to use the park until June 12th. More info will be released on exactly what’s going to be there soon.

So Nike 6.0 are running a big team comp to open The Pool. Ten of the world’s best riders have been given free rein to choose 3 additional riders to make up their team of 4. Here are the team captains: Garrett Reynolds, Dennis Enarson, Harry Main, Jason Phelan, Alex Kennedy, Ruben Alcantara, Brian Kachinsky, Drew Bezanson, Van Homan, Sebastian Keep. Quite a line-up eh? As of today Jason Phelan has chosen Kriss Kyle (UK), Geoff Slattery (US) and Ben Hennon (UK) for his team and Van Homen has gone for Brian Foster (US), Darryl Tocco (US) and Christian Porras (COL). More details and teams are being released by the day.

Nike 6.0 will be giving away tickets for the opening event and putting special nights on at the venue throughout the month that it’s open. Check out there Facebook page http://www.facebook.com/Nike6BMXUK
