The world’s best known action sports competition is back for summer 2011! The X Games 17 starts today in L.A. It only seems like yesterday that we were watching the Winter X Games Europe in Tignes back in March but now summer is here and it’s time for Shaun White to show us what he can do on a skateboard as oppose to a snowboard!

It’s not just skate that features though. The worlds best BMXers, Moto Xers and rally drivers will inevitably be going bigger and better than ever before. All the big shots are in town, after all, this one is the biggie. The skate and BMX park is packed into a smaller area this year making it more technical and a lot more hectic. On the Street course, we will be closely watching Element Skateboarder Nyjah Huston, who off the back of three Street League wins, is looking for his first X Games Gold.
Others to watch are legends Bob Burnquist in the Skateboard Big Air, Rune Gilberg, Bucky Lasek and Andy McDonald (who has competed in every Summer X Games ever to date) in the Skateboard Park. Perhaps the most competitive stage will be Skateboard Street where Element rider Nyjah Houston, DC’s Chris Cole, Paul Rodriquez, Torey Pudwell and Ryan Sheckler amongst other famous names, will battle it out on the newly revamped and awesome looking Street course. Always popular is the Skateboard Vert where this year Tony Hawk will feature only via the PA system, only sneaking on the ramp during practise sessions. He’s leaving it to his friends and colleagues to fight it out between them, Shaun White is perhaps the favourite though..?

Although Great Britain has no presence in the general skate comp we do have some very hopeful BMXers to potentially bring home the Gold medals! Nike 6.0 rider Harry Main, Alex Coleborn, Mark Webb, Jamie Bestwick and Simon Tabron are all representing the UK in the various disciplines of Freestyle Park, Street and Vert. Then there’s the USA’s best including Drew Bezanson, Dennis Enarson, Garrett Reynolds, Jeremiah Smith, Josh Harrington, Chase Hawk and Sean Sexton. The BMX Freestyle Park comp promises to be big if the Nike 6.0 Pool event earlier this year is anything to go by!
One last one to watch is of course, Travis Pastrana in not only Moto X Best Trick and Freestyle events but also in Rally X! In between these X Games events he will be flying off to compete in his first NASCAR race, it’s a ‘Pastranathon’ according to ESPN! We still have limited bits of stock of Travis Pastranas 199 collaboration with Fox and Red Bull here, and it’s in the sale! Dave Mirra, Jeremy ‘Twitch’ Stenberg, DC founder Ken Block, Nate Adams, Danny Torres and Brian Deegan are all taking part in various auto/moto events too.
Check out the competition schedule and stay tuned on ESPN, it’s going to be a good one.

Ouch! Watch the dramatic footage of DC and alpinestars’ Ken Block crashing in treacherous conditions at the testing for the Wales Rally GB which is taking part as we speak. Let’s hope he has more luck in the spare car!

DC’S Ken Block to start GB Rally despite crash
No comments · Posted by Lauren in Auto & Moto
Whilst testing for the GB stage of the WRC this week, DC and alpinestars sponsored Ken Block and co-driver Alex Gelsomino had a ‘significant’ accident in their Ford Focus RS WRC. Luckily both men were unharmed in the incident which happened four runs in at testing in freezing conditions in Greystoke, the car sliding off the road and hitting both a ditch and a tree! There was extensive damage to Block’s car, particularly the roll cage which is why it would will be too tight to turn around this first choice car for the competition in Cardiff. In order for Block and his co-driver to start the final round of the year, the M-Sport team is flat out preparing the spare Ford Focus RS WRC.
One thing is for sure though, they will definitely start the event on Thursday night.

Ken Block and Travis Pastrana battle it out in their rally cars!

The guys at Alpinestars have been busy doing some crazy things. Pimp my ride pales into insignificance when Ken Block and Travis Pastrana are around. There has been a bit of Alpinestars and DC team rivalry over the past week between the God of rally car stunts and the freestyle motocross legend, they never fail to disappoint. They’ve been racing around in their souped-up rally cars, Pastrana made it to the top of Mt. Wahington Auto Road in a record breaking six minutes and 20.47 seconds. The previous record was set by Frank Sprongl in 1998 and no-one has managed to get near him until Pastrana came along and did it on his first attempt. To be fair, he was driving a Vermont SportsCar prepared, BFGoodrich Tires-shod 2011 Subaru Impreza WRX STI rally car but nevertheless it’s quite some feat! Watch out for next year’s Climb to the Clouds where Pastrana is sure to be gunning to beat his own record.
Ken Block has been freestyling it up in his new Ford Fiesta! Check it out at www.auto.dcshoes.com/team/ken-block/, its pretty rad, lets just say it’s not your average Fiesta! Like the figure skater of rally car driving, Block dances his way round L’Autodrome in Linas, France, in the third edition of the increasingly popular GymKhana vids. The rally driver’s epic obstacle filled runs have become big hits on youtube and no wonder, Block’s precision and control is something else. In ‘The Ultimate Playground’ Block shows off his skills like never before, this one is the best yet.

As well as moto stuff Alpinestars are at the top of their game in other sports namely mountain biking and super bikes. Yamaha completed its new look 2011 World Superbike lineup by adding World Supersport title contender Eugene Laverty to team with veteran Marco Melandri. The 24-year-old from Northern Ireland will move up from the junior series in a complete remake of the Yamaha Sterilgarda World Superbike team.
